DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece + Easy Place Cards With Vinyl

The holidays are officially upon us! It’s hard to believe it’s time once again to set the table and carve the turkey. I am absolutely no help when it comes to turkey but I have you covered when it comes to setting a beautiful holiday table. Kayla here today from the Kayla Makes blog and I’m bringing you two easy DIY projects to help transform your Thanksgiving tablescape.

Grab your favorite cutting machine, a little heat transfer vinyl and a sheet or two of adhesive vinyl and let’s get crafty!

Here’s What You Need:

Wooden Centerpiece Tray

Step One: Upload SVG

Download the free SVG from the Craftables website and upload it into Design Space. Scale the design to fit the tray you’re working with. I set mine to 8 inches in length.

Step Two: Load Machine and Cut Vinyl

Place a sheet of adhesive vinyl on the cutting mat face up and load the mat into the machine. Press the start button and wait for the machine to work its magic.

Step Three: Weed Vinyl

Peel away the excess vinyl and then use a weeding tool to remove the small pieces.

Step Four: Transfer Decal

Apply a piece of transfer tape to the vinyl using a scraper tool.

Peel the transfer tape and vinyl decal away from the paper backing and place it on the tray. Use the scraper tool to apply pressure over the design.

Make several passes over the design then carefully remove the transfer tape.

Your wooden centerpiece tray is complete! At this point you can seal the tray with a clear sealer or leave it as is.

Keep in mind, this tray is meant to be decorative and is not considered food safe.

Step One: Set Up Design and Adjust Material Settings

After typing out your chosen names using the font tool, scale them to fit on the wooden place cards and click continue. In the following window, turn on the mirror setting and select iron on as the material.

Step Two: Load and Cut

Place the heat transfer vinyl on the cutting mat with the shiny side facing down and load the mat into the machine. Press start and wait for the machine to finish cutting.

Step Three: Weed and Iron On Designs

Remove the excess vinyl and use a weeding tool to help with the small inside pieces.

Center the names on the wooden place cards and use an iron to apply heat and pressure for 15-30 seconds depending on the heat settings. I’m using a mini iron which doesn’t get quite as hot as a standard household iron, so I hold it on for a bit longer.

Allow the vinyl to cool for a short time and then remove the clear carrier sheet.

These two easy DIY projects are a sure fire way to elevate your table setting this Thanksgiving holiday.

To complete your table setting, add in a few touches of greenery, acorn sprigs for earthiness, and burlap ribbon for texture. All of these items can be found for just a few dollars at craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels.
