YOU’RE ON DAY SIX

DAY SIX ∙ VErse breakdown

Today we’ll take a closer look at this verse, its context, key phrases, and how it connects to the broader story of Scripture.

What's happening in this verse?

This verse comes at a moment of transition. Moses is preparing the Israelites for life without him as their leader, and Joshua is about to step into a role that feels overwhelming. The people are standing on the edge of the Promised Land, facing uncertainty, change, and real fear. In this moment, God’s promise is not about ease or success, but about His presence. The reassurance is simple and steady: they will not go forward alone.

A phrase to notice:

“The Lord himself goes before you”

This phrase emphasizes that God’s presence is not distant or delayed. He does not wait behind them or send them ahead on their own. He goes before them personally. The path ahead is not unknown to Him, and His guidance is already in place before they take their next step.

Where else we see this in scripture:

This promise echoes throughout the Bible, reminding God’s people again and again that His presence is the answer to fear:

  • Joshua 1:9 — God speaks directly to Joshua with the same encouragement as he steps into leadership.

  • Isaiah 41:10 — God reassures His people not to fear because He is with them and will strengthen them.

  • Hebrews 13:5 — The promise “I will never leave you nor forsake you” is reaffirmed for believers in every generation.

Across Scripture, God’s nearness, not the absence of difficulty, is what sustains His people.

Thank You, God, for Your promise to go before me and to be with me. Thank You for never leaving me or forsaking me, even when the path ahead feels uncertain. Help me to trust Your presence more than my fears. Give me courage to move forward, knowing You are already there.

In Jesus name, Amen.
