14 Fall Journal Prompts for Memory Journaling

If you love the idea of journaling but don’t always know what to write, fall is the perfect season to start a memory-keeping journal.

I’ve always loved the idea of documenting everyday life, but my journal pages rarely look like traditional journal entries. I’m much more likely to fill a page with photos, little bits of ephemera, handwritten notes, receipts, doodles, and things I collected throughout the day. To me, those little details are what make a journal feel like real life.

So today, I’m sharing 14 fall journal prompts designed for a mix of photos, ephemera, creativity, and just a little bit of writing. You don’t have to write pages and pages about how you’re feeling. Instead, use each prompt as a jumping-off point for creating a page that captures what fall actually looks like in your life.

Grab your favorite journal/notebook, some journaling pens, paper and stickers, and whatever little treasures you find along the way, and let’s document the season.

14 Journal Prompts for Fall Pages

The First Signs of Fall- Photograph or collect the first thing(s) that made you realize fall was coming!

My Fall Favorites- A collage of favorite snacks, drinks, scents, movies, colors, activities, etc.

A Perfect Fall Day- Document one actual day, or create your ideal version—with photos, timestamps, receipts, weather, etc.

My Fall Outfits- Outfit photo + little swatches/doodles + favorite pieces.

This Week in Photos- Pick 5–10 photos from your camera roll and build a page around them.

Things I’m Loving This Fall- Very scrapbook-y: screenshots, product labels, doodles, photos, quotes, receipts.

The Color of Fall- Pick one fall color: rust, mustard, olive, burgundy, cream- and make an entire page around it.

Fall Comforts- Blanket + drink + movie + food + person + place + scent. Basically, what makes fall feel like fall to you?

The Little Things- Ten tiny things you’ve noticed lately. Leaves stuck to shoes, a funny sign, someone’s handwriting, a pretty mailbox, etc.

Fall Movie Night- What you watched, what you ate, who you were with, what you thought, plus ticket/streaming screenshot/packaging.

Signs of Halloween- Not necessarily Halloween itself—just the first pumpkins, decorations, candy displays, costumes, spooky signs, etc.

October According to Me- Let the photos tell the story with only tiny captions.

A Cozy Fall Morning- Photograph the details rather than writing about the morning.

A Fall Adventure- Doesn’t have to be a big trip. A pumpkin patch, farmers market, bookstore, drive, festival, coffee shop, etc.

The best part about memory keeping is that there really isn’t a wrong way to do it. Your fall journal can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. Print a few photos, tuck in a receipt, save a piece of packaging, write down a funny moment, or cover an entire page with fall colors and little details from your day.

And don’t worry about making every page perfect. The goal is to capture the little pieces of this season that you might otherwise forget. Years from now, I think those ordinary details, the coffee you were drinking, the movie you watched, the leaves you noticed on your walk, or the random receipt you decided to save, will be some of the most fun things to look back on.

So grab your favorite journaling supplies and choose a prompt to start with. You might be surprised by how much of your fall you can remember simply by taking the time to notice it.

Happy journaling!
